THE GREMONT JOURNAL

Inside Mount, Outside Mount, or No-Drill? Choose the Right Fit

Use your window's recess, desired coverage and installation preference to narrow the mounting choice.

Roman shades can sit inside the window opening or extend beyond it. Installation method is a separate decision: some systems use drilled brackets, while a no-drill system needs a compatible window and product.

Inside mount

An inside mount places the shade within the recess for a tailored look that leaves the surrounding trim visible. It needs enough usable depth for the chosen headrail and enough clearance for the shade to operate. The shade sits within the opening, so small light gaps at the sides are possible.

Outside mount

An outside mount places the shade in front of the opening, often covering more of the window and trim. It can be useful when the recess is shallow or you prefer broader coverage. Check the wall or trim area available for brackets and the position of handles, obstacles and adjacent windows.

Where no-drill fits

No-drill is an installation method for compatible windows, typically with an inside-mounted system. It is not a universal option for every window size or frame. The required recess depth, width range and other limits depend on the final product; we will list Gremont's exact limits when confirmed. Do not assume that a shade shown in a no-drill design preview already supports that installation.

Begin with the installation comparison, then follow the measurement guide for the method you intend to use. If your frame is unusual, send us a photo and measurements before ordering.
