01 / Your mounting method

Where will your shade sit?

Choose a mounting position to see what to record. Frame compatibility and final order dimensions depend on the system you select.

Inside mount
Position illustration. Not to scale.

For a shade intended to sit within the window opening, begin with the opening itself.

  1. Record the opening

Record all three opening widths and all three heights. Keep each reading labeled by position instead of choosing an order size at this stage.

  2. Check the frame

Record the available frame depth and note handles, locks, trim or other obstructions that may affect the shade or its movement.

  3. Confirm before ordering

Confirm the required depth, clearances and any deductions for the shade you choose before entering an order size.

Outside mount
Position illustration. Not to scale.

For a shade intended to cover the opening from outside the frame, distinguish the opening size from the coverage you want.

  1. Record the opening

Record the opening at three widths and three heights. Separately note the intended shade coverage and mounting position described by the selected product’s guide.

  2. Check the frame

Check the space around the opening, including trim, handles and nearby surfaces. Note anything that may affect the mounting position or shade movement.

  3. Confirm before ordering

Confirm the coverage, mounting position and allowances for your chosen shade. Keep proposed shade dimensions separate from the original opening size.

No-drill mount
D indicates usable frame depth. Confirm the required depth for your selected system.

A no-drill option depends on the particular system and the window frame. Confirm compatibility before choosing this mounting method.

  1. Record the opening

Record the opening width and height at all three positions, along with the frame depth and any obstructions. Keep photos of the frame to support a compatibility check.

  2. Check the frame

Confirm that the exact system supports the frame material, shape and condition, as well as the intended shade size and weight.

  3. Confirm before ordering

Ask us to confirm the selected system’s measuring instructions, frame compatibility and load limits before ordering.

Before you begin

Have a rigid measuring tape and a place to write. Keep the tape straight, label each window and measure every opening individually.

W1–W3 = width readings. H1–H3 = height readings. Record these in inches.

02 / Keep every reading

Six readings. One clear record.

Measure the opening, not just the glass. Recheck every reading and keep the original values.

W1–W3Width
Measure inside the opening at the top, middle and bottom.
H1–H3Height
Measure inside the opening at the left, middle and right.
Depth & obstructions
Note the usable frame depth, handles, locks and anything in the shade’s path.

03 / Before placing your order

Make the final check.

Your original readings and your order dimensions serve different purposes. Keep both clearly labeled so the final choices are easy to review.

  • Room and window label, chosen shade, control and mounting method recorded.
  • Three widths and three heights rechecked, with consistent units and any frame details or obstructions noted.
  • Final order dimensions checked against the current product-specific guide, including any instructed deductions, allowances and precision.
  • Questions about fit and compatibility resolved before ordering.
